Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Rohit Saraf, Maniesh Paul, director Shashank Khaitan and producer Apoorva Mehta attended the trailer launch of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari at a multiplex in Mumbai. Two important members were conspicuous by their absence – actor Sanya Malhotra and producer Karan Johar. The team played on this aspect cleverly and raised a lot of laughs.

When the host asked about Sanya’s whereabouts, Varun Dhawan said, “Sanya is a very important part of the team. Sabse best baal unke hi hai! We have got a cut-out of Sanya so that we don’t miss her!”
The host asked the attendees for “a big round of applause” as Sanya Malhotra’s cutout arrived on the stage. Maniesh Paul, in his trademark style, raised laughs, “Pehli baar, Sanya sabse jaldi tayyar bhi hai kyunki baal, make up kuch nahin karna pada! As it is, woh aa gayi hai!”
Varun Dhawan too joined in the fun. He ‘asked’ the cut-out, “Why did you say no to me, Sanya?! Is it because you won a National Award?”
A journalist then asked about Karan Johar’s absence. Varun quipped, “You see Karan Johar at mundan, marriages and even at someone’s suhaag raat! Hence, we decided to give him a break.”
On a serious note, he added, “The truth is that he has made a decision that henceforth, whenever his films are launched, he will not attend those events because he wants to let the team get the limelight. He feels that when he comes for an event, media unke peeche pad jaata hai.”
Varun Dhawan ended his answer by stating, “If he comes for the event of any other film na, make it a controversy!”
Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari releases in cinemas on October 2.
