NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Aizawl on Saturday to inaugurate the Rs 8,070-crore Bairabi-Sairang railway line, linking Mizoram with the rest of the country. The PM landed at Lengpui Airport at 9.10 am and addressed a public meeting virtually from the airport, as inclement weather prevented him from visiting Lammual Ground.Mizoram governor VK Singh, chief minister Lalduhoma and railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw were present at Lammual Ground. Besides inaugurating the railway line, PM Modi also flagged off the first Rajdhani Express between Aizawl and Delhi, along with two other trains connecting Sairang with Guwahati and Kolkata.The prime minister laid the foundation stones for a 45-km Aizawl Bypass road, a 30 TMTPA gas bottling plant, and multiple road projects across the state. This visit is part of PM Modi’s three-day tour across five states Mizoram, Manipur, Assam, West Bengal and Bihar during which he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of projects worth over Rs 71,850 crore. Following Mizoram, the prime minister arrived in Manipur where he will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for development projects totaling over Rs 8,500 crore and address public functions.
