The cool kids kicked off New York Fashion Week at Bar Bianchi in the East Village on Wednesday night, celebrating “Saturday Night Live” star Chloe Fineman’s collaboration with Mother.

Fineman, who jumped from group to group throughout the evening, described the event as “’60s, disco, happy, chaos, sexy, fun… It’s my favorite part of New York. This feels very like Amélie on acid.”

Attendees at the dimly lit party included Martha Stewart, who slipped in once the event was in full swing, Busy Philipps, who stayed close to the bar, posing for pictures and dancing, Leni Klum, Sara Grace Wallerstedt, Chloe Troast, Dylan Mulvaney, Liza Koshy, Elizabeth Gillies, Alisha Bob and more. Mother cofounders Lela Becker and Tim Kaeding were also in attendance. Many guests sported pieces from the collection, as well as other iconic Mother items, including a letterman-inspired jacket embroidered with the words “Drop Out.” One guest wore a T-shirt that read “Who the f–k is Mother?”

Throughout the evening, guests sipped Aperol spritzes and snacked on bruschetta, arancini balls and sprawling charcuterie boards, while DJ and Dune Suncare cofounder Mei Kwok played mixes of tunes like Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5.” Fineman, Philipps and Becker, who all wore the brown patent leather skirt and jacket set from the collection, posed for pictures together to show off their matching looks.

“As a designer, you only see bits and pieces as it progresses through and this is the culmination of everything together,” said Kaeding. “The real culmination of everything is when you have a party and everyone’s wearing it, and you’re like, ‘Holy sh-t, that looks amazing.’ When I look around and I see everyone wearing it, I think ‘That is so cute.’”

Kaeding and Becker tapped Fineman and her sister Emma Fineman, who is an artist, for the 15-piece retro-inspired capsule several months back.

“It was so fun to work with Chloe and Emma,” said Becker. “It was so natural once we all connected.”

While Fineman seconded this, noting that working with her sister came naturally, she joked that the duo were more at odds when it came to actually getting ready for the event.

“It’s been a dream come true, but also manic as hell because we get ready at different speeds, and I have two personas, one when I live in California, one when I live in New York. In New York, Chloe is like such a nightmare,” Fineman said of herself while sipping on a spicy cocktail.

That being said, she was quick to highlight the details her sister put into the collection, including a “CF” logo, a nod to Fineman’s initials, that was featured in certain items. Aside from the party, Fineman and her sister celebrated the collection during the day by hunting down the wild postings in New York.

“We went on like a goose chase trying to find the wild posters around New York, and immediately someone was postering over mine, so I just ripped it off, and I got into a fight,” she said. “I was like this is my day!”

Fineman, who donned a new hair shade inspired by Jane Birkin which she coined “bleige” (a blond beige), was eager to kick off her best New York Fashion Week yet.

“Every year it gets better and better, but I also have intentions each year in mind. This year was to be like, not insane. Then, of course, Day One, I’m just like, ‘Where are we going?,’” she said. “It’s the most manic week of the year.”

Attendees like Klum, who wore jeans and a matching denim jacket from Mother, raved about the fit of the pieces in the collection. “[They’re] one of the most comfortable pairs of jeans I’ve ever worn,” she said.

While the model was gearing up for a busy fashion week, she was anticipating an even busier week to follow.

“I leave next week for HeidiFest. My mom’s doing an Oktoberfest, so that’ll be a bit more hectic than fashion week,” she said.

Klum, who had spent the night at a table chatting with a friend, breaking for photos here and there, was enjoying moments to observe other attendees.

“Everyone here looks and just is so cool. Like damn, I want to be friends with everyone here,” she said. “I’m just people watching. I’m sitting, eating from the charcuterie board just watching everyone do their thing.”

As the indoor section of Bar Bianchi filled up, guests spilled out onto the open patio. Some, including Klum, sat at tables, sipping drinks and people watching, while others congregated in tight-knit circles gossiping, smoking cigarettes and plotting the rest of their fashion week.
