In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, filmmaker Suneel Darshan said that one of the most defining chapters of his career has been his collaboration with Akshay Kumar. The duo worked together on seven films, including Jaanwar (1999), Ek Rishtaa: The Bond of Love (2001), and Andaaz (2003). These films not only strengthened Darshan’s filmography but also played a significant role in reshaping Akshay Kumar’s career trajectory during a crucial time.

Reflecting on their early days of working together, Suneel Darshan shared how his first impression of Akshay Kumar left a lasting impact. “Akshay called me and wanted to meet up, and we met immediately,” Darshan recalled. “When I saw him, I thought, ‘Gosh, this guy is really gorgeous. Very good looking.’ His reputation was that he was extremely disciplined. I went totally in his favour. I thought to myself, ‘I can definitely make a film with him.’” At the time, however, Akshay Kumar was going through a rough patch in his career. “The only issue was that he had 13 or 14 flop films then, so he wasn’t considered saleable,” Darshan said candidly. “But I was willing to take that challenge because I believed in my own abilities. I knew my subject. I wasn’t the media’s darling, but I made successful films.”

Darshan praised Akshay’s work ethic, calling his discipline and dedication one of the key reasons their films resonated with audiences. He also highlighted Akshay’s ability to reinvent himself, which made their professional partnership both dynamic and productive.

Their collaborations were grounded in mutual trust and a shared vision of delivering stories with emotional impact. From intense dramas to romantic blockbusters, their joint projects connected well with audiences and marked a turning point in both their careers.
