The feud between Karisma Kapoor’s children and Sunjay Kapur’s third wife, Priya Kapur, has been taken to court. Both parties have made their points loud and clear that they are not going to back off easily. Amid the highly publicised legal battle, Sunjay Kapur’s sister, Mandhira Kapur Smith, presented her stance in the conflict. Mandhira, who is currently in the UK with her mother, Rani Kapur, supported Karisma and felt that her children have every right to move to court to pursue what’s rightfully theirs, i.e., a share in their late father’s property.
Mandhira Kapur Smith believed the court case would be beneficial for the family
Mandhira was asked by ANI what she thought about the legal feud between Karisma’s kids, Samaira and Kiaan and Priya Kapoor over Sunjay’s Rs. 30,000 crore estate. She responded that she was ‘happy’ about them making the legal move because that would give their family knowledge about Sunjay’s will and what really transpired behind it. Mentioning that she believes in the Indian justice system, Mandhira said:
“I’m very happy about it because finally the family will know something and have some knowledge about anything, really. I believe in the justice system in India, so I’m hoping it will bring more clarity, more visibility and transparency to everything.”
Mandhira Kapur Smith extended her support towards Karisma Kapoor and her kids
Mandhira found it bizarre that Sunjay Kapoor would cut his children, Samaira and Kiaan, off from the inheritance rights to his Rs. 30,000 crore empire. She said she ‘stand by them’ because, according to her, Sunjay’s will ‘doesn’t make sense’, owing to his relationship with the two kids. Stating that the world wasn’t aware of the father-children bond between them, Mandhira shared with ANI:
“I stand by them because I do not think that if anyone knows the relationship they have had with their father and for their father not to have them a part of the will, it just doesn’t add up. Doesn’t make sense. So I stand by them.”
Mandhira expressed sadness for the kids being dragged into the inheritance feud
Talking to HTCity, Mandhira shared how ‘sad’ it was for the 20-year-old, Samaira and 15-year-old, Kiaan, to be dragged into their father’s estate feud. She shared that Sunjay’s loved ones haven’t even been able to mourn his loss yet, and they have been facing ‘constant shock every day’. Mandhira also revealed that she and Sunjay’s mother, Rani, did not want to take things to court and would like for Priya to sort things amicably. She hoped Priya Kapur would give them their due share of Sunjay’s assets, and stated:
“We’ve not been allowed to grieve since this (Sunjay’s death) has happened, and it’s been a constant shock every day. My mother (Rani Surinder Kapur) did not want to take this to court, and we still hope that Priya would come forward and give us what we are asking for. It’s been unfortunate that his children have been cut off [from] his will.”

Mandhira Kapur Smith thinks Rani Kapur has the right to decide things regarding Sunjay’s will
Rani Kapur, who was also named as one of the defendants in the lawsuit filed by Karisma Kapoor’s children, was not in favour of taking the issue to the court. According to Mandhira, being Sunjay’s mother, Rani should be ‘able to decide what’s going to whom’. As much as Mandhira was happy that the truth would come out through the court proceedings, she didn’t like the part where Sunjay’s kids were being dragged into the drama and things were getting ugly among the family members.
Mandhira called it a ‘nightmare’ and wanted to wake up from it. According to her, it was preventing them from grieving Sunjay’s untimely death and taking time to heal from the loss. However, she still wants to see things through till the end as Sunjay and his kids, Samaira and Kiaan, ‘always had good relationships’ and they had the right to question their absence from his will.
