Not everything needs a sequel or reboot.

At least that’s what Kirsten Dunst thinks when it comes to the cult classic film, Bring It On. The high school cheerleading movie recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. Now, when it’s common to bring back TV shows and movies, and there’s been recent reboots and followups like Freakier Friday, Gossip Girl, I Know What You Did Last Summer and Snow White, to name a few, Dunst told Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday that she wasn’t interested in rebooting the franchise.

When Dunst was asked if we were getting close to seeing a sequel in the future or if that interests her, she immediately replied, “No.”

The Power of the Dog actress continued, “I’m like, leave good things where they are.” She was then asked if holding a producer title would lead her to do it. “No, no, no, I don’t need to put on a cheerleading outfit,” she said. “I don’t even know what I would do, be a coach or something?”

Bring It On follows two high school cheerleading teams, the Toros and the Clovers, as they prepare for a national competition. Dunst plays Torrance Shipman, the cheer captain of the Toros, while Gabrielle Union portrays the Clovers’ leader. And while there’s been plenty of additional Bring It On films in the franchise following the popularity of the 2000 film, including Bring It On Again, All or Nothing, In It to Win It, Fight to the Finish, Worldwide #Cheersmack and Cheer or Die, Dunst has only appeared in the original.

Dunst’s current view on a reboot is in contrast to comments she made last year. In April 2024, she told Entertainment Tonight, “It depends” when asked if she would return for another Bring It On, and added, “As long as it’s not embarrassing.”
