The Supreme Court on Wednesday made reference to the Nepal violence which has been raging on for two days to highlight the power of the Indian constitution. A bench of Chief Justice of India BR Gavai and Justice Vikram Nath was hearing the presidential reference case when CJI Gavai referred to the tense situation in Nepal.

“We are proud of our constitution, see what is happening in neighbouring countries,” CJI Gavai said, referring to the anti-corruption agitation in which 21 people have been killed so far. “And Bangladesh,” added Justice Vikram Nath, referring to the students’ protest in the neighbouring country which forced the then PM Sheikh Hasina to flee.

Both neighbouring countries witnessed violent protests, with buildings set ablaze as youngsters took to the streets demanding the resignation of their respective Prime Ministers.
