Through three years of collaboration, Nike and Jacquemus have revisited the ’80s and ’90s by releasing special editions of the Air Force 1, Air Max 1, and Air Humara. And they’ll soon go back as far as possible in the history of a Nike by reviving the first shoe ever made by the Swoosh.

The Jacquemus x Nike Moon Shoe will bring three colorways to the shoe that introduced Bill Bowerman’s waffle sole. Despite the model’s significance in Nike history, it was only subject to a retro release once in 2024. The collaboration made a quiet debut during Jacquemus’ Paris Fashion Week show in January for fall 2025, and former sneaker journalist Brendan Dunne, now at StockX, revealed the three variants expected to release before the end of the year.

In addition to the white and black pair from the show, there will also be editions in black-and-white and red-and-white. All three feature an upper with what appears to be a nylon base with suede overlays and a leather Swoosh. They also share the same sole unit with a lifted white midsole at the heel and a gum outsole with the famous waffle pattern. Jacquemus branding on the tongue maintains as low of a profile as the sole itself, and leather lace tips carry over from its other Nike sneakers.

Just 12 pairs of the original Moon Shoes were made as prototypes for runners to wear at the 1972 Olympic trials. The tech was then refined for the Waffle Racer, which went into full production.

In 2019, one of those 12 pairs of Moon Shoes sold for $437,500 through a Sotheby’s auction. The 2004 retro carried some slight differences, and there was also a 2009 Moon Crepe with a crepe sole. In 2018, Nike took its recently introduced Vaporfly sole unit and paired it with an upper inspired by the Moon Shoe to form the Moon Racer.

The Jacquemus x Nike Moon Shoe doesn’t yet have a firm release date but is expected to be released during the holiday season of 2025. Pricing, too, has yet to be confirmed.
