Do you feel your raised voice against the predators in the film industry thwarted your career?
My social activism & #MeToo is not an attack on Bollywood as an industry but an attempt to cleanse it of nefarious elements and thereby transform it into something far better and harmonious for all souls in Bollywood. We are all holy souls and spirit before we are artistes and stars and we must honor ourselves and others as such.

What exactly would you like changed in the Hindi film industry?
I wish to see Bollywood drop the expensive and now completely defunct & pointless superstar culture and go back to it’s honest, humble, sincere and artistic roots, telling stories that touch lives and inspire positive evolution in society. Everyone deserves to be treated with honor and respect, no matter who they are and where they work. Some people in Bollywood had to learn this the hard way.

Your debut film Aashiq Banaya Aapne is now 20 years old
This movie was my beginning in Bollywood after winning the Miss India Universe title and a cult hit that catapulted me to national fame and recognition. My movie career became my base and foundation for my spiritual training in every which way. I am what I am today somewhat because of the love and acceptance I received in Bollywood and the public of India.

It’s very humbling to see the new generation, youngsters and teenagers recognize me who were not even born when my film first came out. Aashiq Banaya Aapne is a regular feature on most primetime movie channels even after twenty years!! It’s clear that I’m much loved by the people of India and even the enemies, detractors and abusers couldn’t take that away from me. God has been very good to me despite all my setbacks, oppositions, hurt, pain and challenges. I have no complaints from life. I am at peace in all circumstances. I’m very honoured and grateful to God almighty that my movie ABA is still relevant and popular in the people’s collective minds.
