Mitchell Owen has linked up with the Punjab Kings (PBKS) for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2025. Earlier, PBKS roped in the Australian all-rounder for Rs 3 crore after Glenn Maxwell was ruled out of the tournament due to a fractured finger.

Earlier, it was reported that Owen would only join PBKS after fulfilling his commitments in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) where he represented the Babar Azam-led Peshawar Zalmi. But the 23-year-old has left the PSL midway with the Zalmi still in with a chance to qualify for the playoffs.

Both the IPL and PSL are set to resume on May 17 with the tournaments being halted midway due to the cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.

Owen came to the limelight after his scintillating performance in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25, where he finished as the leading run-scorer while playing for the Hobart Hurricanes.

Owen also scored a 39-ball hundred in the final, helping the Hurricanes win their maiden BBL title after beating David Warner’s Sydney Thunder. Owen scored 108 off 42 balls with six fours and 11 sixes and helped the Hurricanes chase 183 with 35 balls to spare.

For the Zalmi in PSL 2025, Owen scored 102 runs from seven innings at an average of 14.57 and a strike-rate of 192.45. Owen also played for Paarl Royals in the SA20 2025.

PBKS, in the meantime, are one win short of securing their place in the playoffs. Currently placed third in the table, Shreyas Iyer’s men will next be up against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Sunday, May 18 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

The IPL is scheduled resume on May 17 with the clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
