The National Weather Service (NWS) also issued a severe thunderstorm and tornado warning for the Pioneer Valley area, which was to continue until 3 pm EST. The warning was specifically for southwestern Hampshire County and western Hampden County. Residents in those areas were advised to stay indoors and exercise caution as rapid-moving storms loomed near.
The NWS emphasised that large towns within the warning area include Russell, Granville, Chester, Blandford, Tolland, Westfield, Huntington, Montgomery, Southwick, Southampton, Westhampton, Northampton, and Easthampton. Authorities said that conditions were expected to change rapidly, and it was essential that individuals stayed informed with official warnings.
As the storm moved into the Springfield area, it produced heavy rain, gusty winds, and a chance for localised flooding. Although there were no immediate reports of injury or major property damage, officials warned that residents needed to tie down loose outdoor items and stay off roads unless absolutely necessary until conditions stabilised.
