Producer and writer Harman Baweja, known for his critically acclaimed film Mrs. and a slate of diverse projects including Khwaabon Ka Jhamela, Dil Ka Darwaaza Khol Na Darling, Boys of Andaman, and the Tamil film Perusu, has welcomed the newly unveiled Draft Film Policy as a transformative move for Indian cinema. Speaking at a recent event, Baweja called the policy a “much-needed push towards professionalism and accountability,” highlighting its potential to reshape the industry.

The Draft Film Policy, currently open for public consultation, introduces several key reforms aimed at fostering a safer, more structured environment on film sets. These include mandatory adherence to the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act, mentorship programs to nurture young talent, and the creation of a Film Development Council to facilitate collaboration between industry stakeholders and government bodies.
Baweja, who has repositioned Baweja Studios as a content-driven production house, explained why the policy matters beyond box-office performance: “Cinema is not just about stars and stories—it’s built on the shoulders of thousands of people who work tirelessly behind the scenes. A progressive film policy that ensures dignity, safety, and equal opportunity is not just necessary, it’s overdue. If we want our industry to grow globally, we must first take care of the people who make it possible.”
He further emphasized the importance of mentorship and training workshops for aspiring filmmakers: “As producers, we have a responsibility not just to make films but to create an ecosystem where talent thrives. If India wants to truly compete on the world stage, we need structures in place that support creativity, good mass-appealing content while ensuring accountability.”
The policy also supports regional cinema, co-productions, and incentives for international projects, signaling a broader vision for Indian cinema’s global positioning. Baweja added, “This is the time to invest in quality, discipline, and innovation. The Draft Film Policy gives us a framework to do exactly that.”
Under his banner Baweja Studios, Harman is producing films and series that combine socially relevant themes with commercial appeal, including Captain India starring Kartik Aaryan and a feature on the Shah Bano Case. With industry leaders like Baweja backing the policy, Indian cinema is poised to embrace professionalism, safety, and creativity at a new scale.
