Vir Das, the Emmy Award-winning comedian celebrated for his Netflix specials ‘Landing’ and ‘Fool Volume’, is set to script history yet again. He will become the first Indian performer to hold a residency at New York’s iconic Lincoln Center Theater. His latest show, ‘Hey Stranger’, is scheduled to run from October 29 to November 9, 2025, marking a watershed moment in his global journey.

The residency comes in collaboration with Tony Award-nominated director Moritz von Stuelpnagel and the acclaimed production house Seaview, known for its Broadway and Off-Broadway successes. Brimming with excitement, Das described the opportunity as “the bottom of a ladder,” adding, “I’ll be at the Lincoln Center Theater, starting my first ever residency, doing Indian comedy for the world. I hope you’ll come see!”

For Das, the milestone carries a deep sense of responsibility. Reflecting on the legacy of Indian legends who have performed on the same stage, he said, “Following in the footsteps of icons like Ravi Shankar ji, Zakir Hussain ji, and MS Subbulakshmi ji is a responsibility in itself. The fact that I get to share this with an international audience is the kind of dream I couldn’t even imagine when I first started out.”

‘Hey Stranger’ is crafted as a meditation on shared human experiences, blending humour with reflection. Das believes comedy is a medium that dissolves cultural divides. “Comedy may be a different medium, but at its core, it is still about human connection,” he explained.

Grateful for his creative collaborators, he added, “I’m thrilled to be working with a visionary like Moritz von Stuelpnagel and a powerhouse like Seaview. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

Das’ ‘Fool Volume’ is streaming on Netflix.
