The Houthis announced the appointment of Mohammed Ahmed Muftah as acting Prime Minister after the death of Ahmed al-Rahawi, who died in an Israeli airstrike targeting the Yemeni capital, Sana’a. The announcement came from Houthi President Mahdi Al-Mashat, confirming Muftah’s promotion from First Deputy Prime Minister to head of the group’s government.

Born in 1967 in Sana’a’s Al-Haymah district, Mohammed Ahmed Muftah is a key religious and ideological leader within the Houthi movement. He began his career as a preacher and religious teacher in mosques and quickly became known for promoting a strict, hardline message aligned with the group’s principles.Muftah studied under influential clerics, including Badr al-Din al-Houthi, and actively participated in lectures and summer programs aimed at spreading the movement’s ideology among young people. During the Sa’ada wars, Muftah was arrested for supporting the Houthis.
