Fans have had a mixed reaction to the Harry Potter series being adapted into a new cast. The nostalgia a vast generation has for the film franchise has made it difficult for them to reimagine the characters. However, now in a conversation with Hindustan Times, ‘Wormtail/ Peter Pettigrew’ aka Timothy Spall has reacted to the series.
Timothy Spall on Harry Potter reboot receiving immense negativity
During a candid chat with HT, Timothy Spall revealed that the negativity and extra scrutiny over the reboot series have been uncalled for. He shared that people these days tend to jump to conclusions and get hurt easily. The actor added that he cannot imagine the series to be anything but a massive success. He was quoted as saying:
“We live in the age of negativity. People jump to conclusions very quickly, and they get hurt very quickly. Because you can say things on the spur of the moment and press a button now. However, I cannot imagine it being anything other than a huge success because the franchise has been such a phenomenon.”
In the same conversation, Timothy Spall revealed that it is such a simple story, yet immensely loved. He added that it is a wonderful work of imagination that has led the youth to literature. The actor shared that it makes young minds wonder where every aspect comes from, and anything that introduces children to books is a massive yes for him.
Timothy Spall urges the audience to give the new cast a chance
The series will introduce Dominic McLaughlin, who will be seen in the role of the legendary young wizard, ‘Harry Potter’, Arabella Stanton, who will mark her debut in the world of magic as ‘Hermione Granger’ and Alastair Stout in the role of the ace wizard and friend, ‘Ron Weasley’. Timothy Spall, during the conversation, urged the audience to give the new cast a chance and stated:
“When it comes to new kids, I wouldn’t encourage anybody to go choose the entertainment industry. I think you should be compelled to do it. Well, there are bound to be detractors, given the overwhelming love for it. But I think people will be delighted to see some fresh air.”
Timothy, who was seen in the role of a retired actor in Death Valley, further revealed the reason for his support for the upcoming series. He stated that the series will be a new manifestation of the world. He added that the films are made beautifully. However, they could not include every single detail, which the series will have the ability to. He was quoted as saying:
“They’ve made careers of so many people. But they are just films, and one can’t include the whole book…The series will be able to go into more detail. You’ll be able to see things you haven’t seen in the films… So, you’ll see more. It won’t just be a copy. Many books are made many times over… Great stories can be retold over and over again.”
