Actress Shamita Shetty, who made her Bollywood debut in Yash Raj Films’ Mohabbatein (2000), has reflected on the unexpected challenges that followed her grand entry into the film industry. Despite the strong start, Shamita revealed in a recent interview that her career soon faced hurdles she had not anticipated.
Shamita Shetty reveals career struggles; says, “After Mohabbatein, four of my films never released… I still reach out to producers and casting directors for work”
The actress shared that post Mohabbatein, she shot for four films including projects with Sanjay Dutt, Chandrachur Singh, and R. Madhavan but none of them saw the light of day. This sudden setback disrupted her career momentum at a stage when she was looking to establish herself as a leading actor.
Shamita’s most recent release, The Tenant, also faced similar struggles. The film endured multiple delays and eventually released quietly in a limited number of theatres with minimal publicity. With no strong marketing push or visibility, the film largely went unnoticed, despite Shamita’s hopes that it would at least receive the right platform for audiences to discover it.
Speaking candidly, Shamita admitted that she continues to proactively reach out to producers and casting directors in search of meaningful work. “There’s no shame or harm in letting people know you’re available and want to work,” she said, reflecting both her vulnerability and her determination to do good work.
Despite these challenges, Shamita maintains her resolve to keep working and remains hopeful for better and more opportunities that can truly showcase her talent.
