Jio announced a new Digital Twin network system at the 48th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). This system is a virtual 3D map developed by Jio to replicate India’s infrastructure, covering buildings, localities, and terrains. The virtual map will be used by Jio’s engineers to remotely plan and manage the deployment of services such as broadband, making the installation and management faster and more efficient.

Until now, getting a Jio connection meant waiting days or even weeks for site visits and installation. However, with the Digital Twin, the company explained that engineers will now be able to activate broadband connections in less than 24 hours, compared with the earlier process that involved delays and multiple visits. This virtual model will also allow Jio engineers to remotely check local conditions before carrying out an installation. This will further allow them to prepare in advance and avoid unnecessary waiting.

    How Jio Digital Twin works

In simple terms, a digital twin is an extensive data-driven model that replicates physical infrastructure in a virtual environment. Jio’s Digital Twin system includes a large-scale representation of India’s physical landscape including rural and urban areas. Now this system will be used by Jio engineers in their office to set up new services.

For instance when a customer orders a connection, the system will analyse the network requirements for that specific location. Engineers will then be able to plan and finalise the installation process remotely. And after all the planning they will just need to send their on-ground team to the location to set-up the connection.

According to Jio, this virtual map will help the company to plan and manage the services better and in advance. The system will also reduce the need for repeated site visits and make broadband deployment more efficient. “Jio’s Digital Twin system allows our engineers to check the local network conditions for that specific customer, and precisely plan the entire installation – instantly, right from their offices. And within 24 hours, the rooftop unit is installed, and the customer’s home is live with gigabit speeds,” the company said.

    Jio Digital Twin rollout

Jio has announced that it will begin using its Digital Twin in its home broadband service. The company says this virtual map will enable customers to get Jio;s high-speed broadband internet connections within a day of placing their order.
