Netflix’s The Royals has become the talk of the town since the trailer was dropped. Be it the amalgamation of modernity with royal charms, production design, music, and the performance of the cast, every aspect had its fair share of analysis and talk, for that matter. One of the other most talked about factors in The Royals was the rich costumes donned by the star cast in the show. Well, the final runway show in the series was created by none other than, Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, the duo who was behind the costumes of the iconic film, Devdas and more.

In an interview with Vogue, Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla shared that most of the pieces that are used in The Royals finale episode are archival. While this was not the first time for the designer duo to work on the costumes, it was something really different. For example, the lehenga that Bhumi Pednekar wore in the final episode of the runway was 35 years old. The gorgeous piece that Bhumi wore had uncountable mirrorwork atop it. The piece was a recreation of a 35-year-old lehenga. Talking about the same, AJSK said:
“Bhumi’s lehenga is a mirror-work masterpiece, recreated from an archival garment from 35 years ago. The number of mirrors used is impossible to count; it’s safe to say there are hundreds of thousands.”
On the other hand, Zeenat Aman wore a gorgeous piece too. AJSK revealed in the same interview that Zeenat gave up on wearing heavily embellished bridal outfits since the time she retired, but it was for The Royals, that she donned a superb gorgeous outfit, not only that throughout the entire series, but also she remained to her true self, which means, the ‘OG fashion icon’. Talking about Ishaan’s outfit created by AJSK, the actor relished the advantage of wearing experimental couture, be it kurtas or sherwanis. Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla revealed:
“Ishaan relished the adventure of wearing such experimental couture, whether it was the diaphanous organza kurta or the regal mirror work sherwani. Zeenat rarely wears heavily embellished outfits and hasn’t worn bridal red since she retired from films years ago.”

In the same interview, AJSK was asked if there was any kind of specific collection was used for the creation of the outfits in the show. To reply to this, Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla said that it was mostly every collection and every technique that had been used in their past collections. Several forms of zardozi, badla, aari, khicha, white-on-white Chanderis, rich crystal embroideries, gota, and everything had been incorporated to create the best of the outfits, which could be seen in the series, The Royals.

Bhumi Pednekar’s fashion game in the series, The Royals grabbed special attention, from jumpsuits showcasing her bossy vibe, aligned with the roles to statement dresses in white, black, and brown hues to the saree-saga, Bhmui’s fashion statement through the series left the fashion junkies to take note. One of the best was her couture masquerade gown, which was in blush tone. Bhumi wore it with a feather cape and vintage headpiece, everything made the look stand out.
