Ajay Devgn, Sharvari and Imtiaz Ali have joined hands with Bhamla Foundation for making a couple of short films for the cause of environment as a part of the campaign Tik Tik Plastic 3.0. One film titled Earthing will star Devgn alone while the other, which is yet untitled, will see him and Sharvari together. Both movies are directed by Imtiaz Ali. They will be released on various platforms on World Environment Day on June 5.

EXCLUSIVE: Ajay Devgn, Sharvari and Imtiaz Ali join hands with Bhamla Foundation to create two short films for Tik Tik Plastic 3.0 campaign: “We wanted to make it non-preachy”

Sharing more details about the film, Saher Bhamla from Bhamla Foundation told Bollywood Hungama exclusively, “We wanted to make it non-preachy. The main idea was that it should not look like a social campaign in the beginning. So, that will grab the viewers’ attention. We are not doing any preachy work because that doesn’t work anymore. We are making it in a way where we create awareness. This is completely done by Imtiaz ji and he has created the script. When you see the movie, you will know more about it.”

Asif Bhamla, environmentalist and founder of Bhamla Foundation, told us, “Every year, we do it with BMC, Ministry of Environment, UN and Bollywood Hungama together. This year, we came up with the basis prescribed by United Nations Environment Programmes. This year, it was about ending plastic pollution. In the past we have had two campaigns on plastic, which were musical campaigns with the likes of Akshay Kumar and Alia Bhatt.”

About getting Devgn and Imtiaz on board, Asif Bhamla said, “When we spoke to Ajay Devgn ji, he was very keen because he always has had a passion towards a good cause, with environment being very close to his heart. Ajay Devgn is a man with a good, clean image and hasn’t been a part of any controversies. He agreed to it. He has always been a superstar. His film Raid 2 is also a big super hit. So, I am sure this campaign will get a lot of eyeballs. It will strike a lot of imagination and attention from the global diaspora.”

He added, “And, of course, Imtiaz Ali has been a good friend of ours. He has been following the work of the foundation, which is 27 years old. And environment is a cause, which we have taken up for the past 15 years. We have had a great past with illustrious people across the spectrum, be it film, politics or business fraternities. Sharvari is also a very and young millennial star. We have a great combination. And to top it all, with Imtiaz Ali it has gone leaps and bounds ahead. The whole film fraternity is looking forward to this whole campaign which will be globally looked up.”

Asif Bhamla pointed out that they have always received support from people across party lines. “Because environment doesn’t affect any single party or person; it’s a universal problem,” he said. “And the future lies in maintaining this beautiful planet, the earth. This is also a major concern with youngsters. That’s why we have role models like Alia Bhatt and Sharvari. In the past we have had Ayushmann Khurrana, who have had great influences. And Imtiaz Ali is loved by the Gen Z and the millennials for films like Amar Singh Chamkila and Rockstar.”

Asif Bhamla also shared about the support he has always received from Neeraj Roy, the MD and CEO of Hungama Digital Media Entertainment. “Of course, Neeraj Roy plays a major role in the whole campaign. He closely monitors the various aspects of the campaign because he also has been passionate towards environment himself,” he said.

Asif Bhamla said that their foundation was also active during the COVID-19 pandemic. “We created major quarantine centres in Dharavi,” he said. “In that also the film industry was a major part. We also keep doing a lot of activities for children; for specially challenged, autistic, etc. And this year, we took up this noble cause and fortunately it has turned out to be great films with a man like Imtiaz Ali, who is so conscious about his own craft and the detailing with which he works.”

Speaking about getting inspiration for the cause of environment, Asif Bhamla added, “Our Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji has always been a propagator towards this cause of sustainability. Taking cue from him, we have always worked closely with Swachh Bharat (Abhiyan).”
