Following the massive success of ‘Dragon’ earlier this year, Tamil actor Pradeep Ranganathan is back with another out-of-the-box story about a futuristic romance set in the year 2040. Written and directed by Vignesh Shivan of ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ fame, ‘Love Insurance Kompany’ aka ‘LIK’ is set to release in theatres on October 17, during the festive occasion of Diwali.
The ‘first punch’ teaser, released on Ganesh Chaturthi, presented a view into the world where this Love Insurance Kompany is set up. The teaser opens with the narrator, a robot, explaining how the world has progressed quickly and evolved by the year 2040, but there’s one person still trying to find something that doesn’t exist – love. In a world beyond situationships, textalationships, delusionships, breadcrumbing, benching and more, how can one find true love?
While Pradeep Ranganathan tries to answer this question by pursuing an ‘evolutionship’ with Krithi Shetty’s Dheema, SJ Suryah’s Suryan, who seemingly runs the Love Insurance Kompany, will not let pure romance blossom, according to the robot narrator. Anirudh Ravichander, who is composing music for the film, lending his voice to this robot narrator, was also a fun twist.
With melodious tunes, an efficient establishment of a futuristic world, a fun take on modern-day love, and some amusing cameos to spot in the background of Rajinikanth and Yash, this first punch certainly lands right. This is a promising follow-up to the widely successful first single, ‘Dheema’, which was released in October 2024.
Supporting the lead cast, the film also features Yogi Babu, Seeman, Gouri G Kishan, Shah Ra, Malavika, Mysskin, Anandaraj, and Sunil Reddy in important roles. ‘LIK’ has been produced by Nayanthara, SS Lalit Kumar, and LK Vishnu Kumar under the banners Rowdy Pictures and Seven Screen Studio.
The film was initially supposed to star Sivakarthikeyan in the lead, with Lyca Productions producing it. However, it was put on hold due to budget concerns and was later revived with Pradeep Ranganathan, under the title ‘Love Insurance Corporation’. After facing legal issues over the initialism of the title, the film was renamed ‘Love Insurance Kompany’.
The film was originally scheduled to release on September 18, but was postponed to Diwali, October 17. This comes as a surprise, as Pradeep Ranganathan’s ‘Dude’ is also scheduled to release during Diwali 2025, and the latest promotional posters of the film reconfirmed this. ‘LIK’ will also clash with Dhruv Vikram’s ‘Bison’, which is slated to release on the same date.
