Preity Zinta talks about her personal connection to Kal Ho Naa Ho’s heartbreaking climax; says, “My first love died in a car crash, so this film always hits differently for me”

On Tuesday, Preity reflected on the past and shared the emotional burden she felt while filming the movie’s heartbreaking climax scene.

During a Q&A session on X, a fan commented to Preity, “@realpreityzinta ma’am, every time I watch Kal Ho Naa Ho, I cry like a kid. You absolutely nailed Naina Catherine Kapur. I also learned an important lesson: sometimes love means letting go. After 20 years of shooting, do you cry like us when you watch Kal Ho Naa Ho? #pzchat.”

In response, Preity shared a personal memory, revealing that she cried both during the filming and when watching the film. She said, “Yes, I cry when I see it, and I cried when we were filming it too! My first love died in a car crash, so this film always hits differently for me. Fun fact – most of the actors cried naturally in many scenes, and Aman’s death scene had everyone in tears, both in front of and behind the camera!”

Here, Preity was referring to the loss of her father, Durganand Zinta, who tragically passed away in a car accident when she was just 13 years old. Her father served as an officer in the Indian Army.

On the work front, Preity is gearing up for her return to the industry with Rajkumar Santoshi’s Lahore 1947. This project is a major milestone for Preity as it marks her comeback to the silver screen after a break. Produced under Aamir Khan’s banner, Lahore 1947 also highlights a significant collaboration between Sunny Deol and Aamir Khan’s Productions.
