SpaceX is preparing for its third attempt to launch the highly anticipated Starship Super Heavy on its 10th test flight after delays from two consecutive scrubs disrupted the schedule.

The ambitious launch, set to be a major milestone for the company’s reusable rocket program, was first postponed due to technical issues and then delayed again because of unfavourable weather conditions in the launch area on Tuesday.

The Starship system, composed of the massive Super Heavy booster and the Starship spacecraft atop, represents SpaceX’s cutting-edge effort to build a fully reusable launch vehicle designed for missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond.

The 10th test flight is especially critical as SpaceX advances toward achieving reliable orbital launches with full vehicle recovery.

Key objectives include multiple landing burn experiments for the Super Heavy booster, with the booster set to perform a controlled flip and boostback burn before targeting an ocean landing in the Gulf of America, rather than a catch on land.

The previous launch attempt on August 24 was aborted during final preparations due to ground support equipment problems. The very next day, a second launch window opened but was scrubbed owing to poor weather at the company’s Starbase facility in Boca Chica, Texas.

The highly sensitive nature of the rocket’s systems and SpaceX’s stringent safety protocols mean that these scrubs, while disappointing, are necessary to ensure mission success and crew safety in future human-rated flights.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and teams at Starbase have been closely monitoring weather conditions and conducting thorough technical checks in readiness for the next launch opportunity. The company has not announced a firm date but has indicated the next countdown will proceed as soon as conditions permit.

This test flight carries the hopes of demonstrating the integrated performance of the dual-stage Starship vehicle, including engine ignition, stage separation, controlled descent, and booster innovations.

Success in this mission will mark a significant step forward for SpaceX’s ambition to revolutionise space access through rapid reuse, drastically cutting launch costs and enabling large-scale space exploration.

Space enthusiasts and industry watchers worldwide eagerly await the upcoming launch, which will be broadcast live, allowing viewers to witness one of the most powerful rockets ever built climb toward orbit.
