Filmmaker, Vivek Agnihotri shared some unfiltered details from Anurag Kashyap’s 2007 film, Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal, which included some salty details about the latter’s struggle with alcoholism and how it created a ruckus among the team. While Vivek also claimed that Anurag had palmed off all his writing work to Vikramaditya Motwane, the Gangs Of Wasseypur director has now returned with a spicier jab.

Anurag Kashyap bashes Vivek Agnihotri for his comment about the former’s alcoholism

Hours after Vivek Agnihotri’s comments about Anurag Kashyap surfaced on the internet, the filmmaker has now responded to the claims. Anurag took to his Instagram handle on May 14, 2025, and shared a story calling Vivek a big-time liar. In the story, Anurag shared the screengrab of an article published by SCREEN and called Vivek a big liar. He added that while the shoot took place in London, he was in India. Anurag revealed that Vivek didn’t want the script by him or Motwane and wanted to make Lagaan of football, so he got his own writer to write the script.

“Kitna jhootha hai yeh aadmi. Shooting London mein hui thi and I was in India (He is such a liar, they shot in London and I was in India). He didn’t want the script by Motwane or me. He wanted to make Lagaan of football and took his own writer to write that crappy script. Neither me nor Motwane went on the set ever.”

What did Vivek Agnihotri say about Anurag Kashyap?

In a previous interview with Digital Commentary, Vivek Agnihotri recalled working with Anurag Kashyap as chaotic. He revealed that the film was originally supposed to cast Saif Ali Khan and Priyanka Chopra. However, since Saif was going through something personal, he left, and the duo was replaced by John Abraham and Bipasha Basu. Vivek further added that Anurag was a heavy drinker at the time and could not be trusted with time. He stated:

“We worked together on Goal. He was writing the movie. Saif Ali Khan and Priyanka Chopra were supposed to do it, but Saif had some personal issues at the time, so he left. Then we got John and Bipasha. Anurag was a heavy drinker back then, and he couldn’t be trusted with time. He brought Vikram Motwane on board, who is very talented guy. Anurag told me, ‘Mera naya ladka hai woh help karega.'”

In the same conversation, Vivek Agnihotri revealed that the version of the film that Anurag provided him with didn’t match what he had in mind. He added that, ultimately, they could not come to a common ground, and the production house had a word with Anurag. However, he became extremely difficult to deal with. Vivek stated:

“They had a different version of the film, which didn’t match with mine. Ultimately, we were at loggerheads. The production house had a word with Anurag. He became difficult to handle professionally, because only an alcoholic knows what an alcoholic goes through.”

Vikramaditya Motwane reacted to working with Vivek Agnihotri

In an interview with Mid-Day, Vikramaditya Motwane also shared his experience of working with Vivek. He recalled that Vivek had approached him with an idea for football. However, he wanted a really good writer, so Anurag Kashyap was called. Nonetheless, that escalated things, and in the end, the film was made, but not how Vivek or Anurag wanted it to be. Vikramaditya Motwane added that he still believes the original script was one of the best things he had ever written.
