You have probably noticed that Grammy-winning rapper Lil Nas X has been dominating the news cycle following his arrest on Thursday, Aug. 21. So, here’s a full breakdown of everything that is going on with Nas at the moment.
As mentioned, 26-year-old Nas, real name Montero Hill, was arrested on Thursday for the alleged assault of a police officer after authorities responded to calls that a man was wandering the streets of Los Angeles naked.
On Monday, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office confirmed to People that Nas waived his arraignment and pleaded not guilty to four felonies: three counts of battery with injury on a police officer, and one count of resisting an executive officer.
The publication has also been told that Nas could face up to five years in prison if convicted, with district attorney Nathan J. Hochman saying in a statement: “Attacking police officers is more than just a crime against those individuals but a direct threat to public safety. Anyone who assaults law enforcement will face serious consequences, no matter who they are or how famous they may be.”
A judge set the star’s bail at $75,000, and has ordered him to attend four Narcotics Anonymous meetings per week, with police saying that they believe Nas was under the influence of drugs at the time of his arrest.
And on Monday, the star’s father, Robert Stafford, told various reporters — including NBC News — that his son is “very remorseful for what happened,” adding: “He’s going to get the help that he needs, just keep him in your prayers.”
For reference, the star first rose to fame in 2019 when his debut single, “Old Town Road,” spent a record-breaking 19 consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100.
