Bigg Boss is back with season 19, and all the contestants are gearing up to be in the limelight. As the latest season has begun, all eyes are on a particular contestant, Zeishan Quadri, popular for his role as ‘Definite’ from the cult film, Gangs of Wasseypur.
Zeishan Quadri is the man behind the story of ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’
Though Zeishan has played a minor role as the character of ‘Definite’ in Anurag Basu’s cult classic, Gangs of Wasseypur, he is the reason behind the birth of the classic film. Yes, you read it right, Zeishan has not only acted in the film, but is also the writer of Gangs of Wasseypur. He also wrote the dialogues in the film and won many accolades for the same. Born in Wasseypur, Dhanbad, Bihar, Zeishan pursued his basic education in Wasseypur before moving to Meerut to pursue his graduation in Bachelor of Arts.
Zeishan Quadri worked in a call centre before his acting career
After his graduation, Zeishan worked in a call centre in Delhi for 18 months. However, he always wanted to be an actor and shifted to Mumbai to try his luck. He studied world cinema and pitched Gangs of Wasseypur to Anurag Kashyap. Based on real-life events, the film had actors like Manoj Bajpayee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Richa Chadda, Jaideep Ahlawat and other big names.
Based on real-life events, the film focused on the coal mafia of Dhanbad. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Zeishan revealed how he convinced Anurag Kashyap to act in the most iconic film. Talking about the same, the actor revealed:
“I said if I will write the script, I will also act in it. Just like Sylvester Stallone, when he wrote the screenplay for Rocky Balboa and refused to sell it except under the condition that he get to star in the film. I thought that was a smart move. But had I written that script today, I would have demanded royalty in my contract.”
Zeishan Quadri’s acting journey after the success of ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’
Gangs of Wasseypur gained a cult following for its dark humour and raw filmmaking. The success of the film opened many opportunities for Zeishan, who later acted in films like Revolver Rani, Hotel Milan, Bloody Daddy and a few others. Not just this, he directed the film, Meeruthiya Gangster and the web series, Bhoot Purva. Zeishan also wrote the screenplay for some movies apart from Gangs of Wasseypur.
Zeishan Quadri’s stint in ‘Bigg Boss 19’
Zeishan Quadri was the second contestant to be introduced to the reality show, and people are excited to see his journey in the house. One of the most-anticipated contestants, Zeishan’s outspoken and witty attitude will be the highlight of the show.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Zeishan revealed that he is not afraid to be in front of the camera 24/7. The actor further spoke about the motivation behind doing Bigg Boss 19 and shared that when he first got the offer, it made him think of being a part of the controversial reality show. However, he later realised that Bigg Boss 19 would be a good platform to get visibility as an actor, and the world would get to know more about him.
