A case has been registered against DMK councillor Purushothaman and his associates in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvarur district following a clash over the installation of a flex board. Police said all individuals involved had sustained only minor injuries during the altercation, and nothing major was reported.
According to the complaint, the fight broke out when a local resident objected to the placement of a banner in front of his residence. The resident was allegedly attacked by Purushothaman, who has been named as Accused No. 1 (A1), and his associates. The incident, which took place in full public view, has sparked criticism of the ruling party at the local level.
Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai, in a post on X, said, “Goondagiri of DMK in full public display. DMK Tiruvarur ward councillor Purushothaman and his gang attacked a person for objecting to the placement of a banner in front of his residence,” adding that violence was becoming normalised in the party’s functioning.
He further said, “From Ministers to Councillors, goondaism is DMK’s political culture. Your party that thrives on thuggery and violence cannot hide behind staged apologies, Thiru @mkstalin.”
Police investigations are ongoing, and authorities confirmed that a First Information Report has been filed against Purushothaman and his men.
