Three killed in helicopter crash during flight lesson on Isle of Wight

Three people were killed in a helicopter crash on the Isle of Wight on Monday morning during a flying lesson, authorities confirmed.

One person survived the crash but remains in serious condition in the hospital, according to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary.

Northumbria Helicopters, the flight operator, said the aircraft departed from Sandown Airport around 9 a.m. with four people aboard for a training session. Roughly 24 minutes later, police received a report that a helicopter had gone down in a field near a road in the Shanklin area.

British media shared aerial images showing severe damage to the aircraft, identified as a G-OCLV model.

Emergency services from multiple agencies responded quickly to the scene and cordoned off the surrounding area.

CAUSE OF HELICOPTER CRASH YET TO BE DISCLOSED

The UK’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch has dispatched inspectors to examine the site, collect evidence and begin enquiries. Northumbria Helicopters confirmed they are working closely with investigators.

The cause of the crash remains unknown at this time. Authorities have not released further details about the individuals on board.

Joe Robertson, member of parliament for Isle of Wight East, said the incident had deeply affected the local area. “The accident had left the whole community in shock,” he said.
