Banks in Assam will remain closed today, Monday, August 25, 2025, to mark the Tirubhav Tithi of Srimanta Sankardev. Banks in other parts of the country will stay open and function as usual.
The Tirubhav Tithi of Srimanta Sankardev is observed as the death anniversary of the saint, scholar, and reformer. Sankardev was a poet, playwright, dancer, actor, musician, and social-religious reformer who played a key role in the Bhakti movement and shaped Assamese culture and tradition.
The next major bank holiday will be observed on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, for Ganesh Chaturthi. On this day, banks will remain closed in Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, and Vijayawada. The Indian stock markets, including BSE and NSE, will also be shut on August 27.
Bank holidays in India are fixed as per the annual calendar released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) under the Negotiable Instruments Act. These holidays vary from state to state and depend on regional festivals and events. Apart from these, banks remain closed on Sundays and on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month.
