Bath & Body Works Off the Vine Collection

All lovers of Nancy Meyers and Martha Stewart will be happy to know that “tomato girl summer” is here to stay. The aesthetic that gained major traction in 2023, primarily on TikTok, is something straight out of an Amalfi Coast–based, “The White Lotus”–adjacent fairytale: involving cotton and linen fabrics galore, the occasional head scarf à la Audrey Hepburn in “Roman Holiday,” raffia handbags, and soft-focus, flush-faced makeup that can handle a dip in the Mediterranean Sea. This summer, girlies everywhere are once again flocking to these references, and the good news is that you don’t have to live in Southern Italy to take full advantage of la dolce vita. In fact, with Bath & Body Works’ all-new summer fragrance and candle collection, Off the Vine, a few spritzes are enough to teleport you straight there without leaving home.

The cult-favorite body care brand describes the scent as an “herb garden ripe for picking.” Just in time for summer, the new fragrance is available in a range of Bath & Body Works products: the Eau de Parfum, Fine Fragrance Mist (also available in a travel size), Body Lotion, Ultimate Hydration Body Cream, Body Wash, Gentle & Clean Foaming Hand Soap, and 3-Wick Candle — meaning you can (and should!) completely revamp your self-care routine from head to toe this summer, taking it to sweet yet earthy heights.

Editors test Bath & Body Works Off the Vine Gentle & Clean Foaming Hand Wash.

After our editors tested the entire collection (using it to moisturize our hands, spritzing ourselves with the eau de parfum before heading to work, and allowing the hand soap’s gourmand fragrance to mix with home-cooked meals), we can confirm that its scent is just the thing for getting into the summer spirit — and it will especially please city dwellers craving some early-morning digging in a garden. Being used to Bath & Body Works products with more saccharine identities, we were pleasantly surprised by Off the Vine’s depth and dimension. The first impression is still dominated by sweetness, sure, but one cut through with greens. After initial application, the scent trail that remains is marked by ripe tomatoes, subtle florals courtesy of geranium, and what moss smells like after a rain. We also swear there’s some basil in there!

The composition of the body also delivers on quality. The Off the Vine Ultimate Hydration Body Cream, as an example, felt rich without greasiness and absorbed quickly. Besides having aesthetically-pleasing packaging and being a treat for the nose, the cream also boasts a hydrating ingredient makeup of vitamin E, aloe, shea butter, cocoa butter, and hyaluronic acid.

Perhaps the ultimate favorite of the WWD Shop team was the Off the Vine 3-Wick Candle. Due to a high concentration of fragrance oils, it was able to fill a normal-sized living room in mere seconds, and the scent lasted in the air for a while after the candle was snuffed out. With a burn time of 25-45 hours, it’s a gift that keeps on giving.

As for the Off the Vine Gentle & Clean Foaming Hand Soap, our shopping editors found the best use for it in the kitchen. With the lights slightly dimmed, spaghetti al pomodoro it tow, and some light jazz playing in the background, using it right before sitting down to a hearty afternoon meal made the vibes exponentially better. The product is free of dyes, parabens, and sulfates, enriches the skin’s moisture barrier, and has anti-bacterial properties for peace of mind. The foam’s airiness was also much appreciated: channeling the way we all want to feel when it’s finally time to shed the layers of winter and embrace a more easy-breezy, laid-back summer attitude. Despite this lightness, we all continued smelling the soap’s fragrance (especially its earthier notes) long after use.

With this launch, Bath & Body Works — founded in 1990 but experiencing a renaissance thanks to mining trendy moments and seasonal happenings — joins a whole host of brands that have said “si” to tomato. Malin + Goetz’s Tomato Home Spray, Flamingo Estate’s Roma Heirloom Tomato Candle, and Loewe’s Tomato Leaves Liquid Soap are all additional examples of this shift in brand offerings beyond the well-trodden paths of neroli, oud, cedar, caramel, or rose. And, let us tell you, we’re not mad about it one bit. If you want to spend less than $50 on a single body wash, though, Bath & Body Works’ newest tomato collection is at your service: fusing the affordability factor with home and body goodies that smell oh-so-expensive.
