IIM Raipur, NIT Raipur and IIT Bhilai, held a joint dialogue with representatives of the Consulate-General of the Republic of Singapore to explore academic and research partnerships. The meeting coincided with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore.

The delegation from Singapore included Consul (Political) Mr Jerome Wong and Ms Ericka. Senior institutional leaders present were Professor Sanjeev Prashar, Director-In-Charge, IIM Raipur, Professor Rajiv Prakash, Director, IIT Bhilai, and Dr NV Ramana Rao, Director, NIT Raipur, along with senior faculty and officials from Chhattisgarh State Tourism Development Corporation.

SCOPE OF COOPERATION

The talks covered a wide range of collaborative possibilities. Both sides discussed the potential for joint courses between Indian institutions and Singapore universities, as well as expanding student exchange programmes.

There was also emphasis on developing dual-degree formats and research partnerships.

The representatives noted the growing industrial base of Chhattisgarh and identified it as a possible hub for semiconductor-related development. Data centres and digital infrastructure were underlined as enabling frameworks for future projects.

The Singaporean officials expressed readiness to act as a bridge between institutions in India and universities in Singapore. This would allow for collaborative research and joint training programmes with a focus on skill development and applied research.

GOVERNMENT INVOLVEMENT

Beyond institutional linkages, the meeting also explored avenues of cooperation between the Government of Singapore and the Government of Chhattisgarh. This included the possibility of drawing in industries and policy bodies to connect with academic institutions.

The dialogue reflected a common understanding: India’s education system is positioned to drive innovation, while Singapore’s strength lies in skill-oriented pedagogy and research. By combining these two streams, the partnership aims to create globally relevant programmes.

Institutional heads present at the meeting reiterated that the long-term goal is to establish platforms for joint work in research, innovation and sustainable development.
