When War 2 was announced, the expectation was simple: a monster hit. The YRF Spy Universe label, Hrithik Roshan’s action avatar, and Jr. NTR’s pan-India aura had all the makings of a blockbuster. But, despite carrying the weight of the YRF Spy Universe, the firepower the A-list cast, War 2 has turned out to be a paradox at the box office. What was expected to be a record-shattering juggernaut is instead limping along, leaving trade circles, exhibitors, and audiences equally surprised. The immediate question now hanging over its theatrical run is deceptively simple: will the film manage to cross the Rs. 200 crore mark in Hindi – or has that milestone slipped out of reach? We spoke to trade experts on this subject.

Film trade analyst and critic Taran Adarsh summed up the mood bluntly, “We need to see what happens in the first week. But right now, what I am looking at is not a good figure. The trends are not good at all.”
Industry numbers support this caution. Girish Johar, Head of Distribution & Revenues, Zee Studios, pointed to the film’s recent daily collection of just Rs. 6 crores, projecting a subdued lifetime, “When the film is falling like this, you can’t really gauge. The Hindi numbers are around Rs. 120 crores, and on Monday, they were around Rs. 6 crores. That is not a good sign. It should earn a maximum of Rs. 160–175 crores. Not beyond that.”
Exhibitors echo that sentiment. Vishek Chauhan, owner of Roopbani Cinema in Bihar, also pegs the film’s Hindi lifetime in the Rs. 175 crore zone. The only voice of optimism comes from Satadeep Saha, CEO of SSR Cinemas, who believes the film might eventually cross the Rs. 200 crore mark. But that faith runs counter to most ground reports.
For YRF, the saving grace lies in economics beyond box office. Johar notes that satellite, streaming, and overseas revenues will cushion the underwhelming theatrical run.
So, will it cross Rs. 200 crore in Hindi? The consensus suggests otherwise. Analysts and exhibitors largely cap its lifetime potential around Rs. 170 crore, making the milestone unlikely.
