Stephen Curry is lovingly called ‘Chef Curry’ by his fans and has established his name as a basketball legend with his amazing gameplay. As a National Basketball Association(NBA) player, he is credited with revolutionising the game on the court. However, off the court, Stephen has also built a reputation of being a happily married family man with his fairytale-like love story with his wife, Ayesha Curry. Stephen Curry and Ayesha first met at a church as teenagers
Like a love story straight out of a romance novel, Stephen Curry and Ayesha first crossed paths in a church when they were 15 and 14 years old respectively. Talking to People, Ayesh shared that the NBA player used to be the ‘cute boy at church, ‘ so she decided that he wasn’t for her. However, in the same interview, Stephen joked that he doesn’t remember the first time he saw his wife. Talking about meeting her husband as a teenager, Ayesha said:
“We were just kids. He was the cute boy at church that all of the girls were obsessed with, so I made a generalization that maybe he wasn’t for me.”
Stephen Curry and Ayesha reconnected years later and started dating
Ayesha Curry relocated from Charlotte to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a model in 2008. Stephen was also in town to attend the ESPY Awards. In her podcast, Call Her Daddy, Ayesha revealed how Stephen sent her a flirt text on Facebook that helped them reconnect. The model had appeared in a music video with Young Berg at the time. So, taking this as his cue, Stephen first text, as revealed by Ayesha, was:
“When I moved to LA, he Facebooked me….He was like, ‘Hey, do you still live in LA?’ Uh, that’s a lie.. The first message was, I was in this music video, and he was like, ‘Hey, who is that in the in the music video in the picture that you’re in?’And I’m like, ‘Oh, it’s Young Berg.’ And he goes, ‘Oh, I should have known. He always has all the sexy ladies.’And I was like, ‘What is happening right now?’ ”
Ayesha was 18 and Stephen was 19 when they reconnected after years. Both of them went on their first date to Madame Tussauds and got Chai Lattes, the model revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live. They shared their first kiss on New Year’s Eve and Ayesha was the first one to say ‘I love you’. However, Stephen told her that he wanted to be very sure about his feelings whenever he said the words back to her. In an interview with People, Ayesha revealed the first time Stephen confessed his love and shared:
“We were watching a movie and he turned to my ear, and he said, ‘I love you,’. Mind you, my parents were sitting right there. His parents were sitting right there. Our siblings were sitting right there. I was trying to sit and watch the movie, but I was freaking out. It was so special because I knew he meant it.”
Stephen Curry and Ayesha tied the knot in 2011
Stephen Curry went down on one knee and proposed to Ayesha on her parents’ driveway in 2010. A year later, they tied the knot on June 30, 2011, in the presence of 400 of their loved ones. Their wedding was as dreamy as the proposal. Ayesha looked stunning in her strapless wedding gown with a mermaid skirt and floral motifs on the waist down. Stephen also looked as dashing as ever in a charcoal grey suit. The couple looked amazing together with the radiance of their joy evident on their faces.

Stephen Curry and Ayesha Curry’s little family has expanded over the years with the addition of their four little ones. In 2012, the couple embraced parenthood for the first time and welcomed their baby girl, Riley Elizabeth. Their second daughter, Ryan Carson, was born in 2015, which Stephen announced on his social media handle and called himself a ‘proud daddy’. In 2018, Ayesha and Stephen welcomed their third baby and first son, Canon. In 2024, the Currys became a family of six with the arrival of another baby boy, Caius Chai. In 2025, Stephen and Ayesha celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary. Ayesha wished her husband with an Insta post and penned down:
“Screaming I LOVE YOU to my baby Stephen Curry … 14 year wedding anniversary and 17 years attached at the hips and the lips. Through everything and anything it’s you my baby. My forever everything.”
