Jessie J is sharing her regret at missing out on spending time with her 2-year-old son, Sky, while undergoing breast cancer treatment.
“Yesterday I sobbed, because I miss my boy. I can’t be a mom like I want to be a mom and I feel robbed,” the singer revealed on Tuesday’s episode of the “Great Company” podcast with Jamie Laing.
“The worst part is… I feel like cancer has robbed me of memories with my boy,” she continued. “And anyone with a toddler knows that they change so much in that space of time. You blink and he’s chatting.”
Jessie J, born Jessica Cornish, also shared that giving birth to Sky — who she shares with boyfriend Chanan Colman — is still one of her proudest moments.
“He’s the most magical, hilarious boy, honestly. It’s like watching your heart walk around. And it’s an opportunity for you to reflect on your own self.”
The “Price Tag” singer revealed her early breast cancer diagnosis in June with an emotional video for her fans.
“Cancer sucks in any form, but I’m holding on to the word ‘early,’” she explained before sharing that she would have to undergo surgery later that month.
The singer, 37, shared heartbreaking footage from the procedure including a clip of her trying to explain to her young son what was happening.
“So the water and the blood comes out of mommy’s booby and comes out of the tube and into the bottle,” she told Sky in the video.
Another image showed Colman plant a kiss on her forehead and comforting her as she awaited the surgery.
Earlier this month, the “Domino” hitmaker was hospitalized again after she found it “hard to breathe in.”
“Six weeks post-surgery, and I was back in the same ward I was after my surgery. Not expected or planned,” the Grammy nominee wrote on her Instagram Stories at the time, alongside a photo of her arm plugged into IVs.
After doctors ran several tests and believed she was suffering from “a little fluid” in her lungs and an unknown infection, she decided to check herself out of the hospital, explaining that she will “continue the investigation as an outpatient.”
“The recovery is far from quick or easy, and mentally it’s been the most challenging time for me,” she continued. “Especially as a Mum with a toddler and being unable to be the mother I usually am.”
The pop star revealed that she will have to undergo another surgery later this year after a brutal recovery from the first one, but is not giving up hope.
“I’m just flowing with life. Learning about who I am in motherhood and when my health goes left unexpectedly,” she wrote in an emotional Instagram post on Aug. 8.
“I am 7 weeks post breast cancer surgery. I’m still in the thick of recovery and my body is still finding its way. But I LOVE music and I LOVE my life and I want to LIVE in the moment,” the mom of one continued.
She shared that despite “another surgery needed this year,” raising her young son, and releasing new music all while battling cancer, she is confident she can do it all.
“It will look different to what I had planned but that’s life, things change and either we panic and get mad that it isn’t what is was going to be, or we ADAPT. 🌱”
