Coldplay, one of the most popular bands in the world, has long been admired for its dreamy lyrics, vibrant stadium atmosphere, and ability to create a romantic atmosphere at concerts. But the event, known for its music and positivity, came under scrutiny due to an unusual reason. The band’s famous kiss cam, which has been used to bring the spotlight on random fans, unexpectedly exposed an alleged extramarital affair. After the intense buzz, there has been an underlying curiosity about whether the band would discontinue the use of the kiss cam or not. And we finally have an answer.
Chris Martin sheds light on the future of the kiss cam
Chris Martin, who is presently on the Spheres World Tour, recently made a stop at Craven Park in Kingston upon Hull, England. According to Page Six, he directly shared his views on the future of the kiss cam. While interacting with the audience at the concert like he usually does, he read some fan signboards and came across a message from a fan from his Massachusetts concert. For those unaware, it was the same concert where the former CEO of Astronomer was spotted having an extramarital affair. Speaking with his usual charm, Chris said:
“You were at the Boston gig. Well, okay, thank you for coming again after that debacle.”
The singer went on to explain why his band has no plan to stop showing up for fans on the Jumbotron despite the controversy. He explained that they have been using it for a long time now, and it was not until recently that they encountered a scandal. Chris hinted at the unwanted attention they received after the now-viral incident. However, defending Coldplay’s approach of having fun with the fans, Chris stated:
“We’ve been doing it a long time, and it is only recently that it became a…yeah. Life throws you lemons, and you’ve got to make lemonade. So, we are going to keep doing it because we are going to meet some of you.”
What was the Andy Byron and Kristin Cabot kiss cam scandal?
It all began on July 16 during Coldplay’s concert in Massachusetts when the band’s cameras moved through the crowd. The kiss cam randomly landed on a couple later revealed to be Andy Byron, former CEO of Astronomer, a USD 1.3 billion AI company. He was seen cuddling with Kristin Cabot, the company’s former HR chief. At first glance, they looked like any other pair caught in the fun. But instead of sharing a kiss like most couples do, Kristin quickly turned away and covered her face, while Byron awkwardly ducked out of frame.

Noticing the unexpected reaction, Chris Martin playfully joked from the stage, “Either they’re having an affair or they are just very shy.” Soon, things got serious when the internet uncovered their identity and found they were both married to other people. The news went viral within no time and that lead to both executives resigning from their positions at Astronomer. The fallout was so intense that the company later brought in Chris Martin’s former wife, actress and entrepreneur, Gwyneth Paltrow, as a temporary spokesperson to stabilise its image.
What do you think about Coldplay’s decision to continue the use of kiss cam in their concerts? Let us know.
