Twenty five killed, several trapped in Afghanistan avalanche – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Twenty five people were killed and several are reportedly trapped after an avalanche hit eastern Afghan province of Nuristan said, a disaster management ministry spokesman on Monday.
“Some 25 people have been killed and eight injured,” said Janan Sayeq in a video clip shared with media.
The disaster occurred following heavy snowfall in various parts of the country.Jamiullah Hashimi, the provincial head of information and culture, told AFP, “It is still snowing. Rescue efforts are under way and the number of dead may increase.”
The avalanche hit Nakre village in the Tatin valley of Nuristan resulting in the burial of homes under snow and debris. Approximately 20 houses were either destroyed or severely damaged.
