Kerala Education Minister V Sivankutty said the state government has ordered corrections after a draft Class 4 Environmental Studies teacher text wrongly stated that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose “fled to Germany in fear of the British.”
The minister admitted this was a “historical mistake” and confirmed that the corrected version is now available on the SCERT website.

“In connection with the curriculum revision, it has been found that there are some historical mistakes in the description of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in the draft of the revised Environmental Studies teacher text for Class 4,” Sivankutty said.
He added: “As soon as this issue was brought to our attention, SCERT was instructed to make corrections in it and to print the book only with historical material added.”
The minister also said the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has been instructed to debar the members of the textbook writing committee responsible for the mistake from further academic activities.
GOVERNMENT REJECTS CHARGES OF DISTORTION
Sivankutty clarified that the Kerala government does not share the central government’s stance on history being twisted for political reasons.
“We have adopted the policy of bringing historical facts that uphold constitutional objectives to the children with a sense of reality throughout this curriculum revision. It will continue to do so,” he said.
