Actor Huma Qureshi, along with her brother Saqib Saleem, is stepping behind the camera for their debut production, Baby Do Die Do. In a candid revelation, Huma shared that the move into producing was born not of ambition alone, but of frustration and a perceived lack of opportunities.

“It’s really amazing that we are getting the opportunity to be first generation producers. I think somewhere it came from lack of opportunity, from that frustration in the early years because I feel like, ‘oh my God, I can do so much more’. As an actor I can only prove myself if you hire me for the job,” she said, acknowledging the constraints of waiting for roles rather than creating them.
Known for her standout performances in films such as Gangs of Wasseypur, Dedh Ishqiya and Jolly LLB 2, Huma expressed a desire to avoid complacency or playing the victim. She remarked, “We spent a lot of time waiting for that opportunity. There was a sense of going and talking to other people, producers, convincing them to hire you, but that didn’t happen of course it left you very broken hearted. I think both of us have that one Qureshi gene refuses to take no for an answer or allow ourselves to victims.”
Taking on production roles allows the siblings to shape their cinematic journey on their own terms. Huma emphasized that their goal isn’t simply to bankroll big-name movies but to champion meaningful storytelling and fresh talent. “We don’t want to repeat the mistakes that we have seen other people make. Would I not want to make a big movie with massive stars? Sure, someday, but it won’t come at the cost of me telling good news stories or giving new face new a chance,” she concluded.
Through this transition, Huma Qureshi pivots from being an observer of the film industry’s gatekeeping to an active participant driving change. Her evolution into a producer reflects a broader desire among actors to take control of narrative opportunities—and not to wait for them.
