Filmmaker AR Murugadoss has stirred controversy with his recent remarks about Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s work habits during a past collaboration. In a candid interview with Baradwaj Rangan for Galatta Plus, Murugadoss criticized the actor for arriving late to the set, alleging that Khan’s availability only at night hours significantly hampered the production process.

Murugadoss claimed that the unusual schedule forced the team to rely heavily on technology instead of real-time shooting. “We had to shoot entirely with green screen and VFX,” he said, pointing out that this compromise affected his creative vision for the project. He added, “It’s not easy to shoot with a star. Even day scenes, we have to shoot at night because he turns up to sets only by 8 PM. We are people who are used to shooting right from early mornings, but that’s not how things work there.”
The director’s comments have quickly caught attention online, with fans and critics weighing in on the debate. While some agreed that excessive VFX often dilutes storytelling, others felt Murugadoss should have adapted better as a filmmaker. Addressing the filmmaker’s statement, a section of social media users advised, “Focus on your script rather than only complaining.”
Murugadoss also highlighted how difficult it became to manage child actors during late-night schedules, which affected the film’s progress. He explained, “If there were four kids in a scene, we would have to shoot with them at 2 AM, even if it’s the shot of them returning from school. They would become tired by that time and usually dozed off.”
The filmmaker also opened up about his creative struggles while comparing Sikandar to one of his biggest success Aamir Khan’s Ghajini. He admitted, “I could pull off Ghajini because it was a remake, not an original script. I had already done it before, so I had complete command. With Sikandar, that wasn’t the case. I couldn’t execute it well.”
Whether Murugadoss’s remarks will lead to a wider conversation on balancing stardom with discipline remains to be seen, but his blunt statement has certainly sparked a wave of reactions across Bollywood circles.
