Farhan Akhtar began his career as a director with Dil Chahta Hai (2001), starring Aamir Khan in the lead along with Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna and Preity Zinta. 5 years later, he directed another Khan – Shah Rukh Khan – in Don (2006) and also its sequel, Don 2 (2011). Bollywood Hungama has learned that he also attempted to make a film with the third Khan, Salman Khan.
REVEALED: Farhan Akhtar had offered to direct a war film; wanted to cast Salman Khan
A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Farhan Akhtar had come across a script about the 1962 India vs China war. He expressed the desire to direct the film. He even met Salman Khan as he felt that the superstar would be able to do justice to the lead role.”
The source continued, “However, things didn’t materialize as Salman was busy with other commitments.”
The source also clarified, “Farhan Akhtar is currently gearing up for the release of 120 Bahadur, which sees him returning to acting after four years. However, this wasn’t the film that he offered to Salman. It was probably a different script and subject.”
Interestingly, both Salman and Farhan’s next films are war sagas centered around India’s conflict with China. Salman Khan is currently shooting for the film Battle Of Galwan, based on the tension between the two countries that erupted in 2020. It is expected to be released in cinemas in the first half of 2026.
120 Bahadur, meanwhile, will be released this year, on November 21. Its teaser was launched earlier this month and it was attended by Farhan Akhtar, producer Ritesh Sidhwani, director Razneesh ‘Razy’ Ghai and actors Raashii Khanna, Sparsh Walia, Vivan Bhathena, Dhanveer Singh, Digvijay Pratap, Sahib Verma, Ankit Siwach, Devendra Ahirwar, Ashutosh Shukla, Brijesh Karanwal, Atul Singh, Eijaz Khan and Ajinkya Ramesh Deo. If all goes well, it could be Farhan’s first IMAX release as an actor.
