Jenna Ortega’s show, Wednesday, has been proven to be record-breaking, and there’s no denying the fact. The show’s second season has also been a hit, and now part two of the second season is soon going to be streaming on the OTT giant, Netflix. Ahead of the release of part two, Jenna Ortega and other members of Wednesday were a part of a fan event at Cockatoo Island. While being there, the leads and the makers talked about the success and what was behind the appeal of the hit Netflix show.

Jenna Oretga reveals the secret code that helped Wednesday to bag success

While being at the fan event, Jenna Ortega talked about the success of the series, Wednesday. Jenna said that while people just take risks and do such projects, without knowing whether they are going to work or not, when they bring such an overwhelming response, it’s just unbelievable, and they are just navigating those kinds of feelings now.

The actress revealed that the show’s sucess lies with the fact that people could resonate with it. Explaining further, Jenna noted that everyone has a portion within themselves that could be labelled as ‘outcast’, and that inner dynamic, just like ‘Wednesday’, allows people to be themselves without external influence, and it was this fact that attracted the audience way too much. Jenna could be quoted as saying:

“So, I think seeing someone who is so young, so self-assured, and so comfortable with herself — and who doesn’t allow external factors or the world around her, no matter how much it may change, to affect or change her as a person — is really reassuring and comforting to see.”

Emma Myers (Enid) and Hunter Doohan (Tyler) talk about the appeal behind the hit Netflix show, Wednesday

As per the ‘Hyde (Tyler)’, played by Hunter Doohan, he believes that the most beautiful aspect of the show is its celebration of outcasts, attracting those who navigate different mindsets. On the other hand, ‘Enid’, played by Emma Myers, echoed this sentiment, stating that she believes every human being has some dark side within themselves. As per Emma, the way ‘Wednesday’ in the show expressed this, albeit in a celebratory manner, has been the emotional hook. Emma said that everyone just loves to see the way ‘Wednesday’ expresses what everyone must be thinking, which is absolutely appreciating.

The director talks about casting ‘Thing’, the disembodied hand on Wednesday

Thing’s role in Wednesday, has been unconventional, but the character actually won hearts. The way stitches were made on this disembodied hand was a way to personify the body part, which helped the lead in the series to investigate. The message that was to be conveyed was that ‘Thing’ has lived a life. In part 1 of season 2 of Wednesday, when the Addams forgot ‘Thing’s birthday, and ‘Enid’ came forward to celebrate the same, it hit the right emotional chord, which made the role of this hand feel like that of a human, even tho not shown visually.

Talking about the same, the executive producer and director, Tim Burton, said during the recent event that ‘Thing’s look was important to him since otherwise, it would have felt like an ordinary hand. Viwers who had been thinking that ‘Thing’ is computer generated, are making a huge mistake as it’s not CG, rather an act. The director stated that ‘Thing’ was present on the set with all the actors and was acting equally, thus, he’s a real character. For the unversed, Victor Dorobantu is behind the role of ‘Thing’ in Wednesday. Burton said:

“He’s like the Dustin Hoffman of hands. It was very important not to do CG [Computer-Generated] because he’s a character. He was there on the set, there with the actors, acting with them. He’s equal with all the other actors in the show.”
