Veteran Marathi actress, Jyoti Chandekar passed away at the age of 69. Mom of popular actress, Tejaswini Pandit, Jyoti carved a name for herself in the hearts of the audience. The actress’s career spanned five decades, starting from the age of 12. Her demise caused a great deal of sorrow in the industry. While earlier the reason for her demise was not disclosed, recently another report revealed that the actress was suffering from health-related issues for a while.
The reason for Jyoti Chandekar’s demise surfaces
Jyoti Chandekar was reportedly admitted to a Pune hospital for several days as she faced health-related issues. While it was not revealed what the exact issues she had been facing were, a report by News18 claimed that back in 2024, Jyoti fell ill while shooting for Tharala Tar Mag.
The actress’s sodium level suddenly dropped, which led her to face illness, for which she had to take a break of nearly two months. Talking about her health issues, Jyoti, in an interview with The Craft, shared that she felt like she had just returned from the brink of death. The actress also stated that everyone waited for two months for her, which is a rare occurrence. Jyoti expressed her gratitude over the same, and said:
“It felt like I literally came back from the brink of death. No production waits two months for a single actor. But everyone waited for me. I wasn’t working for two months, yet they managed everything so beautifully that it still felt like Poorna Aaji… Aaji is here. No one let my absence be felt.”
Earlier, Jyoti’s daughter, Tejaswini, in an interview, talked about the same and mentioned that her mom underwent surgery, for which she had to take a back step from the show. Jyoti’s daughter further shared that her mom had a gallbladder surgery, and she was admitted to the ICU for several days. After recovering for two months, Jyoti returned to the show, as confirmed by her daughter.

For the unversed, Jyoti Chandekar’s last rites will take place in Pune’s Vaikunth crematorium on August 17, 2025. In a statement, Jyoti’s daughter, Tejaswini confirmed her mom’s passing at the age of 69. The actress said that her mother died after suffering from a brief illness. Tejaswini further mentioned that Jyoti’s last rites will take place on August 17, 2025. The statement could be read as:
“Greetings, It is with deep sorrow that we inform you that our beloved mother, who always lived with a cheerful heart and a smiling face, and everyone’s dearest senior actress Mrs. Jyoti Chandekar Pandit, has passed away today, 16th August, at the age of 69 after a brief illness. Her last rites will be held tomorrow, 17th August, at 11:00 a.m. at Vaikunth Crematorium, Navi Peth, Pune. In grief: Tejaswini Pandit, Poornima Pandit, and the entire Chandekar-Pandit family.”
