Javed Akhtar is one of the most respected lyricist and poet. He has always managed to win several hearts with his songs and poetry. Recently, the popular artist made headlines, when he decided to slam trolls, who called him a traitor and asked him to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day.
Javed Akhtar slams trolls for calling him a traitor
On the 79th Independence Day, lyricist, Javed Akhtar took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to wish everyone. After he penned a heartfelt message, a user commented on his post, “Aapka happy independence to 14th August hai”. Another user wrote, “Lekin tum ho toh gaddar he.” To this, Javed Akhtar did not remain silent, he gave a befitting reply to the users. He replied:
“Beta, jab tumhare baap dada angrez ke joote chaat rahe thay, mere buzurg desh ki aazadi ke liye Kaala Pani mein mar rahe thay. Apni aukaat mein raho.”

On August 15, 2025, Javed Akhtar wished everyone on the occasion of 79th Independence Day. Rather than a simple message, Javed Akhtar reminded people of all the heroes, who sacrificed so much to get azaadi from the British. He penned:
“Happy Independence Day to all my Indian sisters and brothers. Let’s not forget this independence was not given to us on a platter. Today we must remember and salute those who went to jails and those went to gallows for getting us Azaadi. Let’s see that we never lose this precious gift.”

Javed Akhtar is one of India’s most celebrated poets, lyricists and screenwriters. He was popularly known for his major contributions to Bollywood. Javed was born on January 17, 1945, and he comes from a family that was connected to India’s freedom battle. Reportedly, his great-grandfather, Fazl-e-Haq Khairabadi was an activist during the 1857 revolt.
Apart from professional highs, Javed Akhtar’s personal life was filled with challenges. He was first married to screenwriter, Honey Irani, with whom he has two very talented children- son, Farhan Akhtar and daughter, Zoya Akhtar. However, their marriage did not work out and later, Javed Akhtar got married to actress, Shabana Azmi. Today, they are one of the most admired couples.

Javed Akhtar has an amazing career in Bollywood. He began his career in the late 1960s, as a screenwriter, when he paired up with Salim Khan to form the blockbuster jodi, Salim-Javed. Together, they gave Indian cinema some iconic films like Sholay, Zanjeer, Deewaar, Don and more.
After parting ways with Salim Khan, he shifted towards writing music and gave soulful songs for films like Veer-Zaara, Rock On!!, Dil Chahta Hai, Lagaan, Kal Ho Naa Ho and more. Next, he will write the lyrics for Rajkumar Santoshi’s upcoming film, Lahore 1947. Reportedly, the film will star Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal and Abhimanyu Singh.
