Scary Movie, directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans, was released in 2000 and starred Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Jon Abrahamas, Marlon Wayans, among many other notable stars. The film lacked a well-structured storyline. Instead, it was made as a parody of other slasher and horror movies of the time. However, people loved the unhinged comedy and the satirical nuances so much that the horror spoof film went on to become the Scary Movie franchise with four more instalments. As per reports, some of the cast members are reuniting again for Scary Movie 6.
Anna Faris and Regina Hall are reuniting for Scary Movie 6
Following the success of Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson‘s spoof movie, The Naked Gun, another iconic parody film franchise, Scary Movie, has confirmed its return with a sixth instalment. There is a lot of excitement among the fans since the older Scary Movie films did a great job of showcasing the tropes of the early 2000s horror movies with hilarious gags. However, with considerable changes in the horror genre and newer tropes, Scary Movie 6 is going to have a lot of scope to make fun of fresh tropes.
Anna Faris, who played ‘Cindy’ in the franchise, and Regina Hall, who portrayed ‘Brenda’, have confirmed their return to the franchise. They are also likely to reprise the roles. It is also interesting to note that both Anna and Regina were seen in Scary Movie 1 to 4. Neither of them was seen in Scary Movie 5, which was commercially successful but did not receive the cult status as the previous films in the franchise.
Star cast of Scary Movie 6
Scary Movie 6 is going to hit the floors on June 12, 2026, as confirmed by an official statement by Paramount. Along with Anna Faris and Regina Hall, many of the original cast members of the Scary Movie franchise are said to be back to reprise their roles. The comic brother duo, Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans, will be seen playing the roles of ‘Shorty’ and ‘Ray’. Anna and Regina released a joint statement to Deadline that said:
“We can’t wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn and Marlon — three men we’d literally die for (in Brenda’s case, again).”
Marlon and Shwan are also part of the writing team of the upcoming film. Meanwhile, the third Wayan brother, Keenen Ivory Wayans, who directed the first two instalments, has also turned writer for Scary Movie 6. All three of them were part of the franchise only for the first two films. Michael Tiddes will reportedly be directing the film. The brothers stated to Deadline:
“We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again. This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again.”
