Born as Shree Amma Yanger Ayyappan, Sridevi was the first actress to gain the title of a female superstar. One of the most dynamic actresses of Bollywood, she shone throughout a career spanning 50 years. The stunning actress started her career as a child actor at the age of 4 and went on to play Rajinikanth’s stepmother when she was just 13 years old.
Just like her professional life, Sridevi’s personal life garnered a lot of attention when she fell in love with the already-married filmmaker, Boney Kapoor. The celebrated producer was smitten by Sridevi’s beauty and simplicity and couldn’t help but fall for her. Despite being married to Mona Shourie Kapoor and having two children, Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor, Boney went on to marry Sridevi.
The couple tied the knot in 1996, and soon, Sridevi was labelled a homewrecker. She was called out for breaking the marriage of Boney and Mona. There was a time when Sridevi got insecure about Boney when he went on to meet Mona and their children.

Even after his separation from Mona, Boney was emotionally connected to her and their children, Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor. It so happened that once Boney reportedly went to meet Mona and also took Arjun and Anshula to a picnic.
However, it didn’t sit well with Sridevi, who got upset and got into a fight with Boney. In the controversial story published in Stardust in 1997, a neighbour had heard her yelling as she was shouting:
“How can you do this to me? If you love your kids and wife so much then why don’t you shift back into that house again? You cheat, you liar.”

Sridevi became friends with Mona Kapoor, the first wife of Boney Kapoor, and even used to stay at their house. It was said that Sridevi used to consider Boney as her brother as she had tied him rakhi when she was together with Mithun Chakraborty. It was after her breakup with Mithun that her affair with Boney began.

Once, in a media interaction with DNA, Mona bared her heart out on Boney’s affair with Sridevi. Revealing how there was no looking back for him as Sridevi was already with a child, Mona stated:
“A second relationship was something that one had only read or heard about. But when it happened to me, at that very point my marriage was over. Respect, for me, is foremost. Love follows that. As we evolve, sometimes needs change. Boney too needed somebody else; not me. There was nothing left in the relationship to give it a chance because Sridevi was already with a child. Their rishta was kayam. That itself was a big statement for me to opt-out.”
Sridevi’s tragic death
It was on February 24, 2018, when the news of Sridevi’s death surfaced in the media, shocking her fans. Sridevi, who went to Dubai to attend her nephew, Mohit Marwah’s wedding, was found dead in her hotel room’s bathroom by her husband. Sridevi’s death broke Boney Kapoor, who still lives with the sweet memories of her in his heart.
