With Independence week kicking off, the film industry and entertainment screen have started to release shows and films that will stir the patriotic spirit inside the audiences. Among all the shows, Saare Jahan Se Accha was released on Netflix on August 13, 2025. The show has generated quite some buzz among fans, but amid that let’s find out if the show is worth watching or not.
Saare Jahan Se Accha is a refreshing story after Zee5’s Salaakar
Netflix’s Saare Jahan Se Accha released just a week after Zee5’s Salaakar. The two have almost the same story to tell but the difference is evident. According to a review by The Indian Express, Salaakar, starring Naveen Kasturia, reminded the audience of a comic book and was beyond terrible, but Saare Jahan Se Accha, on the other hand, thankfully took a serious tone, which is more credible, realistic and engaging.
The plot of Saare Jahan Se Accha
The six-episode show, Saare Jahan Se Accha is set in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It focuses on the RAW officer, ‘Vishnu Shankar’ (played by Pratik Gandhi), who is given the responsibility by agency chief, ‘R.N. Kao’ (played by Rajat Kapoor) to prevent Pakistan from making a nuclear bomb.
On the other hand, Pakistani President, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, along with ISI chief, ‘Murtaza Malik’ (played by Sunny Hinduja) is trying his level best to make this nuclear bomb. ‘Vishnu’, then goes to Islamabad, pretending to work at the Indian Embassy and he takes his new Bengali wife along. Gradually, he secretly builds a network to gather information, which will help him block Pakistan’s plans.
The best part of the show is the makers have tried to make it realistic. The show uses real historic events like the 1974 Pokhran nuclear test, which was supported by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The narrative even includes mentions of real life people and places like Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi, Mossad chief, Ben Adler, ‘HGN reactors’ and the Gadani port.
Scripted elements in the show, Saare Jahan Se Accha
Despite focusing on realism, by showing real life locations, mentioning real life people, the show does have a few fictional elements. The show features a love story between an Indian spy and a Pakistani woman, which evidently feels like a filler as it is nowhere needed in the plot. Along with this, a few dialogues like “baby steps in the world of darkness” feel very scripted.
Powerful performance by Sunny Hinduja and Suhail Nayyar
The stars of the show are Sunny Hinduja and Suhail Nayyar, who deliver the most powerful and unforgettable performance. Their acting brought intensity and depth to the show. Apart from them, Pratik Gandhi, whose character is supposed to underplay, also performed well. But Sunny and Suhail’s performance overpowered everything else. Viewers are unable to take their eyes off them. Together, they elevated the show and left a lasting impact.
Is Saare Jahan Se Accha worth a watch?
The early episodes of the show will pull you in with its detailed settings, tense operations and powerful acting. However, the show gradually slows down. Towards the end, the focus of the show shifts from spy missions to unnecessary subplots like the romantic track. The finale feels less impactful especially after the strong build up in the first half. Overall, if you enjoy historical spy thrillers, this show is worth a watch, especially because of the strong acting by the cast.
