A new movie from Mexican director Fernando Frias built around Depeche Mode live footage will get a theatrical release, including Imax screenings, from October 28. Depeche Mode: M is a feature film about Mexican culture’s relationship with death—a theme explored through the medium of Depeche Mode’s 2023 album Memento Mori and their attendant shows at Mexico City’s Foro Sol Stadium.

Dave Gahan said in a press release, “At its core, our new film ‘M’ is about the deep connection between music, culture, and people—and Fernando Frías, who directed and conceived the film, did a beautiful job telling that story through the lens of Mexican culture and our shows in Mexico City.”

Depeche Mode: M premiered at Tribeca Film Festival this year. Frias’s 2019 film I’m No Longer Here won Mexico’s Ariel Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Direction and was shortlisted for an Oscar. His latest was I Don’t Expect Anyone to Believe Me.
