Casting director Shanoo Sharma, one of the driving forces behind Yash Raj Films’ (YRF) talent roster, recently shared her heartfelt account of the overwhelming response to Saiyaara’s spectacular opening day. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Shanoo revealed that the film’s first-day collection touched Rs.20 crores, sparking reactions that ranged from disbelief to pure joy.

She recalled, “We were in screenings. We had Deian’s screening, we were all in the studio. As we were walking, PG would walk back and say, ‘We’ve blocked it ’ and everyone would be like, ‘What? What?’” She added that even younger members present, Ahaan and Aneet, who weren’t fully aware of the business side, reacted with excitement, saying, “That’s massive, right? That’s good.”
Sharma said, “That first day was memorable. It was just magical. People were coming out of the trial crying,” she shared, noting that several viewers even returned for a second viewing on the same day after attending the morning show.
Among the memorable responses were calls from her close friends in Colaba, who often watch films in large groups. “By Sunday, I was getting calls saying, ‘Oh my god, this is just what YRF needs.’ Each one was individually calling and crying,” Sharma said.
She believes Saiyaara resonated deeply because it touched personal chords. “It could be a person with a father issue, it could be something else, but something definitely hit the spot in people,” she said.
With its strong emotional pull and stellar opening, Saiyaara seems to have struck both a commercial and sentimental chord with audiences.
