Choreographer Vijay Ganguly is on a roll. After wowing the audience with his work in Saiyaara, he now looks forward to his upcoming films. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, he shared interesting information about his upcoming films like the Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar and the Varun Dhawan-starrer Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai.
EXCLUSIVE: Vijay Ganguly promises that Varun Dhawan has “danced like MAGIC” in Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai: “After a LONG time, you’ll see him dancing in this manner”; also confirms Ladakh song shoot of Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar
Vijay Ganguly began by saying, “Dhurandhar is a different film. I can’t disclose much as there’s a lot of interesting stuff in the film that people should know when the trailer is out. But from the teaser, it is clear that it’s an out-and-out action film. There’s romance and mystery as well. We’ll be heading to film something in Ladakh soon. Hence, I am sure this film will be a lot of fun.”
Speaking of David Dhawan’s Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, Vijay Ganguly explained, “David sir comes from a time when films were made in a different way. Scenes were shot on film and you can’t be entirely dependent on the editor to work his/her magic during the post-production. Those days, it was not like ‘Scene chaaro angle se shoot kar lo. Fir edit pe dekhenge’. They had to know what exactly they wanted from the song and the actor. Hence, my experience on David sir’s set was very different. He would tell me, ‘Mereko expression mil gaya. Ab aage badho’ (laughs). Even Varun would insist on a retake, but he would say, ‘Mujhe chahiye hi nahin’. Hence, that was also a crazy learning experience.”
Vijay added, “Before meeting David sir, I tried to see as many songs from his films as possible. And as expected, it was never-ending and most of the songs were super-hits. His brief to me was, ‘Tu aisa kaam kar ki jo bhi gaane ko dekhe, woh maze le sake’. He made it clear that I should not keep in mind that the hook step should become a hit. He suggested that I should have fun and the audience should also have fun when they watch the song.”
He further stated, “I have done 4-5 songs in the film. Watch out for Varun; he has danced like magic! After a long time, you’ll see him dancing in this manner. I have also worked on a song with him and Mrunal Thakur, while there’s another song featuring Varun and Pooja Hegde that we filmed in Edinburgh.”
