On August 11, 2025, Karan Johar took to his social media to celebrate the 19th anniversary of his 2006 film Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. The filmmaker shared a carousel featuring a throwback video and a series of photographs from the sets, showcasing moments with the film’s star cast, director, and crew.

19 Years of Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna: Karan Johar remembers “bold, brave” love story in heartfelt tribute note 

Produced under Dharma Productions, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna was set primarily in New York City and starred Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta, and Kirron Kher. In his caption, Johar wrote, “Some love stories transcend time and still hold all the power they once did…KANK for me will always be that. My third film in and I was moved again by the absolute honour of having such terrific people on set with me to make a story that was bold…brave and full of only heart.”

The post drew reactions from friends and colleagues. Designer Manish Malhotra commented, “Memories for life .. New York,” while Dharma Productions’ CEO Apoorva Mehta wrote, “Most special one?”

A couple of years ago, in a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Johar had shared his mother Hiroo Johar’s candid reaction to the film. “She was silent after KANK. She walked out and didn’t say anything. One week later, she asked me, ‘Can you explain why you had to be so extreme with the subject?’ I said it’s my belief. She said I won’t say anything. But when I saw it, I got very scared. That’s what she said. She’s very honest with me.”

On the professional front, Karan Johar is currently involved in multiple projects. His banner recently released Dhadak 2, starring Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi. Additionally, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani recently won at the 71st National Film Awards.
